Do I need emergency lighting? …HMO emergency lighting, Commercial unit emergency lighting, Business premises emergency lighting
Yes, all business are required to provide a safe passage for employees, members or public and/or HMO tenants in the case of an emergency. As reform the (fire Safety) order 2005 states the requirements of the statutory and legal requirements.
How do I test my emergency lighting system?
Our clients will generally appoint an internal 'responsible person' who will be tasked with completing your emergency lighting testing. The duration of the test should be sufficient to ensure that the luminaire operates correctly and functionally. This will be completed monthly and this action will have an audit trail completed via our on log on site book.
Annually, there should be a fully rated duration test to ensure that the emergency lights are still working and producing the acceptable level of light.
So for example, if a luminaire is rated for a 3 hour duration, then after 3 hours in an emergency situation the light should still be lit. All actions will be recorded and any failed units will be noted, changed and relogged.
